Keeping Kids Entertained While You Work

If you work from home full-time or even just occasionally, you may find it difficult to get your work done with small children at home. One of the best ways of handling this dilemma is to give them some of the documents themselves. They can even work on “their job” in your office when with you, that will make you both happy. If you have enough space, the best plan is to give your child a small table or desk in your office as their official working space.

Coloring books and crayons are perennial favorite with small children. Always keep a few coloring books on hand at all times, along with a book of drawing paper. Crayons are often easier for children to work with if you save it in a plastic container, not the original boxes. You may want to add some markers and colored pencils to the container as well.

Books that have educational activities, connect-the-point games, word games and other fun things to do are also good choices. Find someone who has a theme that your child will enjoy and that is suitable for her age group. Then, you can give your child the task of “working” from one or more pages that they can work when you also work.

A little puzzle that is also good to keep on hand. If you have enough space in your office, a large floor puzzle can be fun. Be sure to choose a puzzle appropriate age, or you may find yourself asked to help make the puzzle, if too hard. On the other hand, you do not want one so easy that can be put together too quickly.

One of the best options to keep your kids busy is to let them play on separate computers, especially laptops. If they have access to the game or especially the Internet, they can spend hours doing whatever they want. Establish an appropriate game for them or for them to particular web sites that will make them busy.

Giving your child the task of writing while you are working is also a good way to make them busy. This will make them feel like they work well together with you. Let them be a reporter for “star” and gave them a deadline for issuance of fun again.
